Most Expensive Luxury Dog Breeds

We have all head the expression that dog is man’s best friend but just how expensive should fido be? I have been interested in a new family pet for quite a while now but it never seems to fail that the breed of dog I want comes with a hefty price tag. From thousand dollars Chihuahua to million dollar Tibetan Mastiffs and everything in between, you could end up spending a small fortune on a fluffy friend.

Earlier this year a prized red Tibetan Mastiff named Big Splash really did sell for $1.5 million dollars. Why so expensive? It has everything to do with the dog’s genes and breeders willing to pay big bucks for a chance to dip into Big Splash’s gene pool. There was also a German Sheperad that sold for over $200,000 to guard an executive family. From pure-bred dogs to designer hybrid dogs our furry little friends are getting increasingly expensive.

Mastiffs not only have a hefty price tag but can also cost you in the long run. Food and vet bills will quickly add up with this breed and could cost you upwards of $50,000 over the life of your pet.

English Bulldogs are among the pricey list and puppies usually sell for around $3,000. Wrinkly faces and plenty of rolls make the English Bulldog an adorable luxury pet. These dogs are expensive because they cannot breed naturally and usually have to be artificially inseminated along with that they usually can’t give birth naturally either and usually have to have a C-section.

Toy and Teacup sized puppies can range upwards of $10,000 depending on the breed. These pint sized cuties can come in any number of breeds from Poodles to Pomeranians. These are the dogs you usually see in the arms of a celebrity debutant like Paris Hilton. Small dog breeds are usually more expensive because they have smaller litters. A 5lb Chihuahua is very likely to only give birth to one or two healthy puppies.

Thialand Ridgeback puppies usually sell for around $5,000 if you can find one. These ancient dogs are hard to come by. Originally from eastern Thialand the Rideback is considered a Pariah-type that dates back to ancient times and hieroglyphics have been found indicating that this dog used to accompany hunters over 2,000 years ago.

The Saluki is said to be one of the oldest known dog breeds, dating back over 4,000 years. This is another hard to find dog breed and puppies will likely cost you upwards of $2,500.

One of these dogs might make a loyal companion but these dogs can also serve as a status symbols for the wealthy. Chances are you won’t see too many of these dogs at your local dog park unless of course you live in Beverly Hills.

The most expensive dog in the global world sure does have an enormous price tag to it. I would not be surprised if this high price will be broken in due time.
